Medium Format Film

I recently decided to pick up two medium format film cameras. I realized I needed the intentionality that comes with film. The slower pace, the need to think about light and composition. The cost of working with film forces you to slow down. I used to own a Mamiya RB67 decades ago. I decided to go with a Mamiya RZ67 Pro II. A bit of nostalgia and the RZ67 is such a great camera. And, impulsively I decided to pick up a Mamiya C330 Pro S - a twin lens reflex camera - that takes square images. So, basically, Filmagram!

Trying to learn how to use these cameras after a decade of working with digital has been interesting. I feel dumb after relying so much on the technology in modern cameras. Remembering old exposure rules, working on manual focus with reading glasses and a magnifying lens. Yeah, definitely making me slow down.

Then, there is the film. Researching the different types of film available has been quite fun. At this point, my film kit and intent is to work with 2 sets of color film and 2 sets of black and white: Kodak Portra 400 and Kodark Ektra 100 for color; Ilford HP 5 Plus and Ilford FP4 Plus for my black and white. I might extend these later as my interests shift and change.
